“You Give Me Peace” is a song of praise and meditation. The peace that God gives is not merely a lack of conflict, but a wholeness found in Christ and a harmony with God’s kingdom and creation. Songs like this are sung as a praise to God and as a reminder to ourselves and to each other.
No matter the season, when I spend time alone with God and my guitar and play this song, it never fails to calm me and focus me on the presence of God, here and now. I speak often of coming to God with joyful praise and thanks. This song helps me do that, not with a loud and boisterous joy, but with a quiet and serene joy. Singing this song helps me live into Psalm 131, calming and quieting my soul.
